a life so far
in pictures & captions

I had a happy childhood in a village just north of Cheltenham, progressing from ........
.......Dolls to the Girl Guides to Horses to Interior Decoration to Motorbikes & their owners to.......
......not so sweet sixteen......

......when I left home and moved into a damp basement.
After a brief spell at University College London, where I spent more time in the Bar than the Lecture Theatre, discovered drugs, lived with a variety of unsuitable men, got a haircut and became active in the London squatting scene......
......I went on a two week holiday to Greece and came back a month or so later.......

......an expert in peeling potatoes!

A few years at Greenham Common & Comiso - with no plumbing - were followed by moving into possibly the most uninhabitable squat I have ever slept in where the plumbing was something else......

Some photos of Greenham are here

......and I decided a change of scenery was in order and moved to Lendas, in Crete......

......where I found a beach, built a bender and did very little - and still had no plumbing!
And then the money ran out......
......so I got a winter job growing tomatoes.......

......sleeping with tomatoes......

......washing out tomato stains......

......eating tomatoes......

......and still no plumbing!!!

After a hard winter I came back to London and moved into a squat that did have plumbing. But London was cold and the hurricane was even windier than Crete so by the following May I was ready for another holiday.

I went on a 2 week charter flight, fell in love and moved back to the tomato farm with no plumbing......

......and got the guys to build a bathroom using water from the mountain stream.

I eventually left Lendas and moved through a variety of homes & jobs - such as olive picking in Moires, waitressing & gift shop managing in Agia Galini and teaching English in Iraklion.

Then when I got pregnant we moved back to the south coast to the small fishing village of Kokkinos Pirgos - where first Anna, and then Chrissie, spent the first few years of their lives until my relationship broke down and I came back to England to Shropshire - where the kids discovered snow!

Which brings me almost up to date. I reconnected with a wonderful man and moved to Glastonbury with Nick and Anna and Chrissie in 1998. Sadly Nick unexpectedly died in Nov 2002 so I am now alone with the kids - though his spirit lives on in and around this house & gardens.

I've got involved with Glastonbury Online and help run one of the local websites - glastonbury.co.uk -

Meanwhile the kids grew and grew and grew ............
